The kids normally go for this one first, the highest mountain in England and Wales – definitely a challenge to tell your school friends about!! For littler legs we like the Llanberis path which has a great combination of flat sections, steeper climbs and stone steps to get to the summit. Breaking the route into segments with breaks to catch our breath, have a drink and a snack (as well as admiring the views!) allows it all to seem manageable for the Mini-Hikers! In summer when the Café is open the kids can also get a well-deserved snack after checking in at the summit!
A fantastic route for kids, shorter than Snowdon but with some good hands on scrambling sections to keep it interesting along the way. The name Cnicht is thought to come from the word Knight as the Mini-Hikers may notice as they look ahead up at the mountain, it looks like a knights helmet! We take the route from Croesor near Porthmadog which combines some walking across open ground onto the dusty trail path which winds its way up to the summit. It’s a top day out for the mini-hikers!
Two options for this one depending if the Mini-Hikers prefer a walk or a scramble! The ridge at the back is a great introduction to scrambling for the Mini-Hikers and the excitement of climbing up to the summit is a great feeling! If they are less keen on hands on climbing, there is a route which winds up through the woods and up grassy paths to the trigpoint at the top. Either way a fantastic day out and a well deserved hot chocolate and a giant scone in Café Siabod on the way back to the car is a must as well!!
If scrambling is what they love then this is an awesome day out for a Mini-Hiker! Such an exciting route, the kids just love the huge boulders to scramble up and walk across which lead you to the summit. We are always delighted at how much the kids enjoy this route and their sense of achievement at getting to the top! It’s an adventurous route and definitely recommended!
This Mountain is often overlooked but is a little gem.The route takes you from Capel Curig across fields and through woodland onto stoney paths which lead you around and up across the rocky landscape to the summit. Plenty of opportunities to splash about in puddles on this one as it is often a little wet along the way!
